The Mayhem String Band, Mississippi's outlaw bluegrass quintet, are headed to Bobbie's on March 20 and will be showcasing their new CD "Land Pirates".
In a medium somewhere between songcraft, energized theatrics, blazing solos, heart-wrenching harmonies and a plain ole’ good time, the Mayhem String Band has a reputation like few other string bands. Their brand of countrified outlaw bluegrass conjures up the ghosts of Hank and Waylon by creating chaos and taming it in the same performance. These men play string music, raw and aggressive, with the simple hope that people will listen up, catch the buzz and get to dancing.
A refreshing break from the Nashville bluegrass sound, the Mayhem String Band runs the gamut of American roots music by seamlessly absorbing blues, bluegrass, jug-band, and Cajun influences into the bands own inventive songwriting. They have been carrying this brand of outlaw bluegrass all over the country and recently recorded their second album, Land Pirates, with producer Jimbo Mathus (Squirrel Nut Zippers). This much-awaited release features fiddle player Ferd Moyse (Hackensaw Boys) and will be released in March of 2009.
The Mayhem String Band is a live show not to be missed by fans of bluegrass, old-time country, Americana or folks just lookin' for a good time.
