Stride, Pedal and glide will be the keys to success as The Pedal Power Snowshoe Adventure series continues on Saturday, Jan. 31 with the Annual Aria Club & Spa Winter Triathlon. This special race takes place at the Tennessee Pass Nordic Center starting at 10 a.m. and will consist of a 5K snowshoe, a 10K snow-bike and a 5K skate-ski. This event will also be open to both individual competitors and teams.
The non-profit Snowshoe Series, now in its 13th season, benefits local charities in Eagle and Lake Counties and consists of five events starting in early December and running through the end of February.
According to race organizer Bruce Kelly, multi-discipline events are pretty popular, even in the winter. In the earlier years, this series included a duathlon, which was a favorite among our regular participants. With the growing popularity of winter biking, we thought it would add a fun new dimension to the winter multi-sport concept. Kelly adds, with the optimal snow conditions weve got this winter, we anticipate strong participation in this unique event. And, with the cold temperatures weve had it should be a very fast course.
Racers will meet at the Tennessee Pass Nordic Center at Ski Cooper, between I-70 and Leadville. The snowshoe leg of the event will take place on off-piste, single track with the bike and ski portions on groomed nordic track.
Title-sponsors for this years series are 1st Bank and Gorsuch, Ltd., Maximum Comfort Pool & Spa and Dollar Rent-a-Car. Individual event sponsors include, The Tennessee Pass Nordic Center, Paddys Sports Bar and Grill, Pazzos Pizza, Aria Spa & Club and Billys Island Grill.
Pre-registration for this event is $30 for individuals and $20 per person for teams. Racers can register on the Day of the race for $40 for individuals and $25 per person for team. Participants can pre-register with forms from Pedal Power Bicycle Shop in Eagle-Vail or by calling (970) 845-0931. Registration forms can also be downloaded online at pedalpowerbike.com. Participants may also register on the day of the event at the race start. For more information call Pedal Power at (970) 845-0931.
