Colorado is ready to find out who the states top womens and mens snowshoe racers are as the Pedal Power Snowshoe Adventure Series holds the third event of its series, The Pazzos the Colorado State Snowshoe Championships. The race takes place Saturday, Jan.17 at the Tennessee Pass Nordic Center starting at 10 a.m. and will determine the Colorado State Championship in both womens and mens categories.
Because of the challenge and variety of terrain, along with the untracked snow conditions, the Pazzos Championship track is considered one of the premier snowshoe courses in the country, attracting some of the top local, regional and national nordic and endurance competitors.
Racers will meet at the Tennessee Pass Nordic Center at Ski Cooper, between I-70 and Leadville. Recent snows and cold temperatures ensure fabulous race conditions for this exciting event.
The non-profit Snowshoe Series, now in its 13th season, benefits local charities in Eagle and Lake Counties and consists of five events starting in early December and running through the end of February.
The last event in the series, the Paddys Holiday Classic, was also a qualifying race for the US National Championships. The course won raves from the USSSA, the sanctioning body for the nations official snowshoe competition. Title-sponsors for this years series are 1st Bank and Gorsuch, Ltd., Maximum Comfort Pool & Spa and Dollar Rent-a-Car. Individual event sponsors include, The Tennessee Pass Nordic Center, Paddys Sports Bar and Grill, Pazzos Pizza, Aria Spa & Club and Billys Island Grill.
