When is this nonsense of unnecessary battle of words going to stop? Aren't all business in our town attempting to do just that...business? Why, in the words of Rodney King,"Can't we all just get along?"
I am writing this letter on behalf of our business, Rosie's Brewpub. I attended a workshop a little over a week ago at City Hall. It concerned the budget for the city of Leadville. At the meeting the Visitor Center/Chamber presented Leadville a request for $20,000. They handed out copies for their request. Nothing itemized as to where the money will be appropriated. Now the city is contemplating if they should award this request. Correct me if I am wrong but, isn't the Visitor center a separate entity from the Chamber of Commerce? Also, isn't taxpayer money funding the Visitor Center? At the meeting a comment was made that "only 10 percent of the businesses are members of the Chamber." Maybe, if the Chamber would solicit more, they could gain membership, thus avoiding monetary problems. Most of us in the business community here in Leadville are struggling to make ends meet. I could use $20,000 from the city also.
Let's work together in this hard economic time to bring our city back to life again. With a joint effort by all, this can be accomplished and we can all prosper from it.
